  • For an extra challenge, try to hit exactly 100 words, or write a 221B drabble.

At long last, the unstable side won out. Sherlock Holmes paced ravenously around the apartment, spiraling. The world had grown into a most vile and heinous place in the time he had been asleep; it wasn't even the criminals who had gotten worse, but rather, the society itself was ever more corrupt and destructive. The police system was simultaneously a laughingstock and an agent of very real harm, and Holmes had no choice but to work alongside them. He considered drugs, violence - something to bring him an escape from this lonely hellscape where nothing was the same as it used to be. In his own era, his relationship with his body was shaky at best. Here, he felt no self preservation and was even more keen to end this horrible nightmare.

    "Tea?"

Startled from his thoughts, Holmes regarded Robotson in the doorway, who carried a tray with a kettle and the other necessary supplies for a nice cuppa. He felt strangely moved by this; nodding, the mechanical assistant entered the room and started to prepare the cup. Lemon and sugar, exactly as he preferred…

Robotson gently handed him the saucer. The familiarity of the smell gave him pause; a hopeful feeling filled his chest and he softened. Maybe not all was lost, maybe there was yet something in which to believe.
